Nabe Group Exhibitions

Nabe welcomes applications from first-time, emerging and established artists and curators. Proposed exhibitions may utilise single or multiple exhibition spaces within our gallery space. Each application is assessed upon receiving, so be sure to get them in quick-sticks!

In order to be considered for a Nabe Group Exhibition, we will need you to submit an exhibition proposal. Please don't

This proposal should be a PDF document that includes the following:

Up to 10 images of artworks indicative of those to be displayed (JPEG, clearly labelled, no single image larger than 500k).
- Please don't worry if you haven't finished the artworks you plan to exhibit just yet. You can include images of similar works, or do quick sketches to show what they might look like!
An Exhibition Statement outlining your plan for your proposed exhibition (e.g. what theme or idea are you exploring through this body of work?), including a description of artworks to be included and how space will be utilised.
- If you're still feeling muddled, try writting out your ideas on a big piece of butchers paper / scrap paper (create a mind-map!), try recording yourself and just talk out loud, or try talking to a friend to explain what it is you'd like to do.
A short Artist Statement outlining your current practice. Artists may also include links to their website or social media.
Specification of desired space/s the artist wishes to exhibit in

FAQ's

Do I have to sell my artwork in a Nabe Group Exhibition?

No! You can just exhibit if you wish!

What if I haven't finished the artworks I want to exhibit yet? How do I submit a proposal?

You can submit photos of similar works you've done, or do a few sketches (including measurements) of all the pieces you plan to exhibit so we have a good idea of what it might look like, and to work out which wall would suit your pieces best.

How many pieces can I display?

Have a look at the attached floorplan and think about which wall or space would suit your work best. Some of the space have a wall-mounted gallery hanging system that allows us to hang and move large artworks really easily. Small walls have small obstructions that might interfere with how you'd like your work presented. If you'd like you works tighlty hung in a grid format, you might be able to fit LOTS of artworks onto your preferred wall. If you want large spaces bewteen, you might only fit 2-3 pieces in.

Can I offer suggestions for how my pieces are installed?

Yes! If your application is approved and you have a vision for how your pieces should be hung, please feel free to sketch it out for us! Maybe you want to write or paint something directly onto the wall behind the pieces? We'd love for you to be involved as much or as little as you'd like.

The Window

The Window is our two-week window display for solo makers, groups or curators to hire out for mini exhibitions or to sell and promote their artwork. Curate and install yourself and get great exhibition experience. With a train station at either end of the street, 2 schools and a huge park, The Window gets a stack of foot track walking by each day! Paint a mural on the glass, project a short film, hang artwork, or create a pop-up shop. Go wild.

To apply to exhibit in The Window, we need you to submit an exhibition proposal. Don't worry! It doens't need to be formal - this just gives us a better idea of how you'd like to use the space. Just make sure it sounds like YOU! Don't try and make yourself stiff and formal, unless you are stiff and formal, okay?!

Your proposal should be a PDF document that includes the following:

Up to 10 images of artworks
- indicative of those to be displayed (JPEG, clearly labelled, no single image larger than 500k).
An Exhibition Statement
- Outlining your proposed exhibition (e.g. what theme or idea are you exploring through this body of work? Maybe there is none? You just really liked the colour blue and wanted everyone to see all your blue artworks?)
- A description of artworks to be included
- A description of how you plan to use the space
A short Artist Statement (100 words)
- Outlining your current practice (it's okay if you're brand new!)
- What inspires you or motivates you
- Links to your website or social media.
